At CHA we help develop leadership qualities and skills through our courses. CHA Coaching and Action Learning programmes enable participants to develop skills in key leadership competencies:

  • organising thinking
  • using critical analysis and questioning
  • supporting others’ learning and development
  • awareness of self including strengths and internal ‘blocks’
  • awareness of impact on others
  • giving and receiving feedback
  • honing judgment and intuition
  • discovering new perspectives for problem solving.

Good leadership involves a combination of these skills and attributes – and everyone can learn to be a better leader. What is more, leadership qualities aren’t only expressed when a person is in a higher status relative to others; they are important in just about every situation.

Even when we’re alone, the concept of ‘self leadership’ describes how well we communicate with ourselves. Part of all leadership is the ability to self reflect; to ask ourselves continually how well we’re doing, whether what we’re doing fits with our values and – if things aren’t going well – what to do about it.

Another fundamental part of good leadership is the ability to communicate well. A good leader is a good listener. A good leader also asks pertinent questions, which both get to the heart of the matter and inspire fresh thinking.
